Overview

Inspiration

I’d just returned from visiting family in Scotland—hours of rural driving, watching herds graze under bright blue skies (which is normally rare) and big, quiet mountains. I didn’t see Highland cows everywhere (which made each sighting feel rare and special), but when I did, their easy presence stuck with me. This painting captures that feeling: the hush of open land, the strength and gentleness in those horns and eyes, and the small, funny poetry of a cow mid-snack.
