FAQs— Pet Portrait Commissions

Have questions before commissioning a pet portrait? Send me a note via the Contact page and, if helpful, we can also coordinate a quick Zoom or FaceTime to review photos, size options, and color palette ideas.

Ordering & Process

How do I order a custom pet portrait?
Choose your size (and number of pets) on the commission product page and place your order. Then you’ll send 3–6 high-resolution photos. I’ll share a simple digital mockup for approval (palette + composition), and once approved I’ll begin painting.

What sizes do you offer?
Common sizes include: 6×6, 8×8, 11×14, 12×12, 16×20, 18×24, 24×24, 24×36, 36×36 (custom sizes welcome).

Do you paint dogs and cats only?
Primarily dogs and cats—if you have something else in mind, contact me and we’ll see if it’s a fit.

Can you combine multiple photos into one portrait?
Yes—if your pets won’t sit together for one perfect photo, you can send multiple images and I can often combine them into a single composition (best with clear, high-res references).

What’s Included

What’s included with my portrait?
Every commission includes: acrylic on stretched canvas, solid-color background (approved first), painted gallery-wrapped sides, varnish, hanging wire, signature, and a Certificate of Authenticity.

Do I need a frame?
No—most portraits are on gallery-wrapped canvas with painted sides and arrive ready to hang. If you want to frame it later, you can.

Photo Tips

What kind of photos should I send?
Please send 3–6 of your highest-resolution photos. Bright natural light, eye-level angle, sharp focus on the eyes, no heavy filters, and include the full head/ears whenever possible.

What if my photos aren’t great?
Send what you have—sometimes I can work with it, and I’ll tell you honestly if I need better references.

Mockups & Revisions

What do I approve before you start painting?
You’ll approve a simple digital mockup showing the proposed color palette + composition/outline.

Are revisions included?
Yes—1 small revision at the end is included (minor tweaks like color/contrast or small detail refinements). Big changes may require an additional fee.

Timeline

How long will my portrait take?

Typical turnaround:

  • Up to 16×20: about 2–5 weeks after mockup approval
  • Larger statement sizes: allow an additional 2–3 weeks

(Timing can vary depending on complexity and current commission queue.)

Shipping

Is shipping included?
Yes—shipping is included for USA via my economy carrier of choice (tracked).  For shipping to Canada please contact me for shipping quote.

Do you offer express shipping?
Yes—if you need it faster, reach out and I can provide options/quotes based on your size and destination.

How is the artwork packaged?
Paintings are carefully protected for shipping so they arrive safely. If anything arrives damaged, contact me right away with photos.

Cancellations & Returns

Can I return a commissioned portrait?
Because commissions are custom-made, they’re generally final sale. If your piece is damaged in transit, contact me and I’ll help make it right.

Gifts

Can I order a portrait as a gift?
Absolutely—leave a note at checkout or contact me. Gift cards are also a great option if you want the recipient to choose the size and provide photos.  Gift cards will be available on the website soon.
